ProspectPRO

Network marketing companies tell their new distributors to tap into their so-called warm markets for new prospects – their friends, their family, neighbours and their work mates. Most network marketers soon exhaust their warm markets. And then what?

Some buy lists of potential recruits. They spend a small fortune. What do they get for their money? They have one or two names to their teams.

Others start accosting strangers, pitching their opportunities in the hope of getting a bite. The vast majority gives up. They put network marketing into the too-hard basket and go back to their 9 to 5 job.

Why people fail at recruiting

1. The wrong audience

The first reason people fail is that they try to recruit the wrong people. They recruit by proximity, not by attitude. By that I mean they try to recruit people in their family, circle of friends and neighbourhood – and don’t even stop to consider if these people are right for network marketing.

2. The network marketing barrier

Ask 10 people to define network marketing and half will say pyramid selling. It doesn’t matter that it’s a legitimate marketing method, that Richard Branson and Warren Buffet are believers and that pyramid selling is illegal. Network marketing is tainted for many – friends, family and colleagues included. If you have doubts yourself, you will never persuade a potential recruit to change his or her mind.

3. Lack of confidence

Recruiting is impossible if you doubt your own ability – to pick up a phone, to steer a conversation to your network marketing business and to present the opportunity. Fortunately, products will soon exist that address this very issue. Read more on the My Direct Success page.

How to recruit like a demon

I mention elsewhere how in the world of network marketing, people join people. To succeed at recruiting, you need to keep this in mind. This and a couple of other rules –

1. Recruit experienced network marketers

Talk to friends, family and colleagues about the products you sell. Talk to existing network marketers about the business opportunity. For starters, they don’t need to be convinced that network market is a legitimate business. Second, there’s a good chance they belong to the 97% who try network marketing without much success. So, they like the idea, they want to work for themselves, it’s just that they might have joined the wrong company or the wrong team. All you need to do is convince them they’ll have more success with you.

2. Reach people outside your circle

Within my immediate family and friends I know of 2 network marketers. However there are 50 million network marketers in the world. Statistics tell me that over 48 million of them aren’t achieving the success they hoped for. So how do I reach these people and convince them to join me?

I use article marketing, video marketing and this website to raise awareness of me, my experience and my business opportunity. And I use proprietary tools to help me connect with potential recruits.

3. Learn from these recruiting masters

There are several people I trust to tell me how to recruit. These people have credibility because they have the track records.

Mike Dillard is regarded as the expert in generating online leads. In the 21st century, the Internet seems to me to be the smartest way to attract prospects to your business opportunity. Mike’s video presentation, Black Belt Recruiting, explains some of his principles.

Todd Falcone has spent 21 years in network marketing, enjoyed great success and now shares the secrets of his prospecting and recruiting success with others. He focuses specifically on recruiting existing network marketers. Men and women will be inspired by his interviews with 8 extremely successful network marketing divas.

Seriously, I would not even consider recruiting without the guidance of Mike or Todd.
